FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the time frame for membership?

Our Artist Membership year runs from July 1 through June 30. All representation and benefits as described above will apply continuously throughout the year.

Who is eligible to apply for Open Studios membership?

This program is open to all artists living and/or working in Boulder County.

How much work can I include on my Artist Page?

Your Artist Page will automatically include the images you submit in your application. You may submit a total of 12 images for your online gallery. Artists can show other media and styles, provided the quality of work is equivalent to the work submitted for jurying. We recommend presenting works in no more than two mediums on your application to demonstrate consistency and style for our jurors.

What's involved in participating in the Online Shop and is it required?

Selling your work in our Online Shops & Galleries is optional. We may have various promotions or themes in the Shops over the course of the year and you will receive details about how to participate. In our Gift Gallery, you can submit up to 15 items with photos, descriptions and pricing. While we will manage all sales - collecting tax and shipping costs up front - you will be responsible for the actual shipping fulfillment and we will reimburse you for a percentage of sales and shipping charges.

May I show and sell reproductions of my work?

A reproduction is defined as a copy of your original art. Reproductions for sale may be included in your Open Studios Shop Gallery, and sold in your studio during the Studio Tour. They should be clearly labeled as reproductions.

An explanation of the reproduction process should be included. This explanation should serve to educate the public about the distinction between original art and reproductions (e.g. “These are giclée prints of my oil paintings, printed using archival inks and paper on an inkjet printer.")

Photography and digital art are considered original art, not reproductions.

What is included in a Virtual Video Tour of my studio and is it required?

A video is not required but if you would like to do one, it can highlight any aspect of your studio that you choose. You can show your process, your studio set‐up, sample work, art in process, talk about your inspirations - it's up to you. Think of your video as a TV commercial for you!
