Spolia is a series of collages that aim to create moments of delight, introspection, and contemplation from magazine advertisements. I’m extremely interested in taking materials designed to sell people something and break those apart until they lose all of their meaning. I wanted the medium to be obvious but the meaning and relationship each piece had to be uncertain. With these collages, I hope that the vibrant visuals from these magazine scraps can be appreciated for their aesthetic qualities and connect with viewers through the way the textures, colors, and recognizable image fragments interact.
