My Buried Treasure series salvages and upcycles reclaimed shovels into fine art mosaics. When I work on these pieces, I often envision warrior queens and kings and try to honor our goddesses within through the beautiful form of the shovel that creates the neck. Some are handcrafted, and each are unique, and I feel a deep connection to the people who used these tools and the hands that held them. I am also inspired by the shape and symmetry of guitars, violins and stringed instruments and the musical history they hold. Similarly, when I work on them, I imagine the folks who touched, cared for and played them and I feel connected to the past.
