It's been an exciting year so far, and although my recent work has run the gamut in terms of styles, I've recently landed on something I'm anxious to explore more. I always start with an underpainting, usually by using up the day's leftover paint on my palette without giving too much thought to what the end piece will be. From time to time I've fallen in love with this underpainting, and proceeded cautiously to flesh it out in a manner that honors its beginnings. As much as I love the randomness these underpaintings create, and the beautiful surprises that pop up from time to time, I am taking a more calculated approach with them. The palette is selected intentionally, and I'm working on a wet canvas to create these lovely textures that can then remain in the final piece, or be covered depending how the creative process goes and what the painting decides it wants to be. I'm thrilled with these new pieces and look forward to exploring this path more.
