I made my first tables over 50 years ago while a student at the University of Colorado. I couldn't make a living from stone topped tables so I became a rocket scientist. I had no intention of coming back to Boulder, but after 30 years the prophecy of Chief Niwot came true and I found a job back in Boulder working on the MAVEN mission to Mars! When I cut back to 1/2 time in 2011, I re-learned the process to make tables; and started experimenting with new stones, rims, and bases. Some of my tables now feature a left hand symbol, recognizing the importance of Chief Niwot’s prophecy in my art.
I have now made over 250 tables. I use natural stone with semi-precious focus stones. I find the focus stones at gem and mineral shows and rock shops. The bases find me. The natural Lyons sandstone comes from quarries in Lyons Colorado near Boulder and is used in buildings on the University of Colorado campus.
