My painting practice is about curiosity. What inspires me today? How can I paint it? What will it look like? During the past year, I’ve been painting landscapes, birds, and simple street scenes. I’m submitting three of each theme. They are all painted with acrylics, and I typically use a palette knife because I like the chunkier style. My work is impressionistic, bold, loose, colorful, and whimsical. I find painting takes courage. Sometimes it takes a kick in the butt to get going. When I’m feeling more tentative, I like to do small multiples. I often make hand-painted greeting cards as a way to get started. Painting is also meditative for me. I like the feeling of getting lost in the art. I like the feeling of waking up in the morning thinking about what I’ll paint next. Painting has opened my eyes to the world around me. I now see colors, shadows, clouds, plants, and landscapes in new ways. This brings me joy and even more curiosity. Ooh, I want to paint this, too!
