I paint because I am in love with color. I paint because I need to make things that I think are beautiful and I want to share them. I paint because I am hungry to see what happens next in the work. My current work is primarily abstract mixed media (acrylic / metal leaf / dry pigment) on paper and canvas inspired by nature imagery, still life, and delving into the subconscious. In my painting I tend to start by staining the canvas with pure color mixed thin with water and medium to blur the edge and allow for unintended shapes and movement to emerge. From here I like to allow for ever thicker paint to be applied, allowing for brush movement to be exposed but to keep much of the paint very wet to allow for drips and the natural movement of the paint / color. Often I will draw upon the canvas with metallic pen which can be tarnished to create unique textures and color dynamics, and then continue to create space / shape/ movement through layers.
