Winston Churchill famously stated that he could not paint in watercolors as it was much more difficult than oil painting. I don't know if that is true, but watercolor is a demanding medium for certain. I've been working at it for 20+ years and can attest to the challenge of becoming truly skillful at this watery medium. Still, the satisfaction one has when the stars align and the muse supports one's efforts is so joyful that I have kept at it and occasionally something brilliant comes through in spite of oneself! When people purchase my work, it still is a pleasant shock after all the paintings I've sold.
