I create raku ceramic sculpture, vessel forms, and pottery, as well as other 2D mediums like linocuts and pastel. I enjoy welding steel frames as a new way to present my ceramic sculptural forms. My primary ceramic style is in the ancient Japanese tradition of raku, where pieces are drawn from the kiln directly at 1800 degrees and cooled quickly in a reduction chamber-a lidded trash can with straw. My ceramics are very organic, and random in nature, but balanced with a repetition of form, color and surface treatment. I'm still mostly doing black fired pieces with minimum or no glaze, but have started experimenting with adding some color as well.
